Pictures of Retired F3

The aim of this site is to help keep alive the memories of the thousands who will have served from all services on board L10. With her sister ship Intrepid, Fearless has served longer than ever anticipated by the MOD and this has meant that the number of people who served on her has been greater than many ships in the fleet.
She retired on the 18th of March 2002, with her replacement Albion coming into service the following year, until then she was the oldest ship in service.
The unique nature of these two ships has seen people from all the Armed Forces serving aboard both as members of the staff and as part of either exercises or transported for conflicts and exercises. This has seen a relationship of affection for these two ships for many people. I hope to help to keep the memory alive for all who served on board Fearless by keeping this site going for many years to come. I will ask that you help me to do this by supplying whatever memories and photographs you have to make this a very special site.
If you have a suggestion for a section in the site then please let me know and I will add it to the menu.

New Section added "Departed Friends" under Mess Deck

We hope to keep the memory of not just the ship alive but also all those who served aboard Fearless. If you would like to add details of someone please let us know.

Funeral of Bob Jones HMS Fearless 1976 -78

I write to inform any shipmates of HMS Fearless that served on her between 1976 - 1978 and knew Bob Jones, that he was suddenly taken from us on the 1st July 2005 aged 70. He was a dedicated seaman with a strong bond to the navy and to those he served with on various ships.

If anyone of your association did know him, the service will be on Friday 8th July 2005 in the afternoon in York. I can be contacted by email at patriciajones251@aol.com

ALBERT POULTER          29/1/05

Albert was serving during WWII on the I Class Destroyer HMS Intrepid when she was Bombed and sunk by German aircraft, Leros Harbour (Greece) 27-09-43. He would like to find members of the crew who survived from Intrepid. Albert now lives in Orpington, Kent his e-mail is abpoulter@ntlworld.com
Albert had opportunity to vist the port of Lakki where Intrepid lies recently, he was saddened that there were plaques for the Germans Italians and Greeks who died in the area but nothing to commemorate those from the Intrepid. He tried to get the Government to rectify what he thinks is an injustice but was told he would have to pay for the plaque. If anyone knows procedure for sorting this sort of dedication out can they please contact info@hmsfearless.org.uk so we can try to help.

The Last Three BARV's go up for sale

The BARV played an important role with the LPD, being part of the Assault Squadron, it's task to assist beached landing craft and rescue drowned vehicles.

Now the last of the Centurion variant are up for sale. The three are for sale from Witham who are the MOD's vehicle disposal agent. So get out your cheque book for a piece of history, then again have a look around their site you might find something else to take your fancy. http://www.witham-sv.com/infopage.php?ID=361&Overide=1

Latest News      8/12/2004

The latest news about Fearless and Intrepid.

The Disposal services are having major problems with the issue of Asbestos in both ships. This has led to a delay in disposal of Intrepid as it is felt that the companies tendering for the scrap have not the means to deal with the problems associated with safe removal of the asbestos. This process is set to take three to four months.

The good news for Fearless is that she is to be dry docked early 2005 for a hull inspection. This is being carried out by a company called Interpub (http://www.interpub.co.uk) as their intention is to turn her into a hotel come hostel in London for up to 700 backpackers. This is a serious bid, as you will understand dry docking is going to cost them in the region of £40,000, and they have also had plans completed by naval architects.
